A mother of a child who has autism received the most heartbreaking anonymous letter from her neighbour, in which they complained about noises that had been coming from her house.

The letter was sent after the same neighbour allegedly sent police round to Magenta Quinn’s house, after they made a noise complaint.

Magenta explained to the police that her son has autism and is non-verbal, and the police then relayed this to the anonymous neighbours.

However, a little while later they sent the letter, which read: ‘Whilst I sympathise with your situation it is a very disturbing noise that comes from your garden continuously, every day, sometimes late into the night.

‘It is not fair on the community to have to bear this disturbance especially as it occurs daily.

‘I would kindly request that you consider your neighbours and try to limit the amount of time that is spent in the garden such that we do not have to listen to the disturbing noise daily and sometimes before 6am.’

Magenta, who’s from Brisbane, Queensland, and is a full-time carer to her 17-year-old son, has no idea who sent the letter.

She said: ‘I was a bit surprised, but more indignant when I got it, because they had already sent the police and had it explained that he has a disability.

‘There’s been no further contact. I’m still open to dialogue with the letter sender to see what the actual issues are and see if we can work our something together.

Sharing the letter to her Facebook page, Magenta wrote an open letter to her neighbour, in hopes they would come across it.

She wrote: ‘Dear neighbour who left me this note,

‘While I appreciate the odd noises of a mentally ill person can be disturbing, I can guarantee that you have no clue when compared to living with it 24/7 for 17 years.

‘Having 3 police turn up at my doorstep at 10:30 at night when I’m new to the area may have made you feel you are avoiding confrontation, but for me it was alarming to say the least.

‘Talking with council won’t help, he’s not a dog, it’s a person. If you’d like to take him on a holiday so I can get some rest that would be awesome. Otherwise, please feel free to come and chat with me, there’s a lot you do not understand.

‘Have a great day!’

Since receiving the letter, Magenta says she hasn’t done anything different in regards to her son, and she wants to make sure others know that the way she and her son have been treated by her neighbour is not okay.

‘For other parents, this isn’t okay,’ she told ‘That’s why I spoke up.’

Magenta also assures everyone that her son is doing great – and that she hasn’t explained the situation to him.

‘It would mean nothing to him. His comprehension doesn’t extend to that,’ she said.

In regards to her neighbour’s ignorance, Magenta tells us: ‘What’s kind of astounding, is we actually live up the road from a special school with ASD kids, and the local high school has an ASD unit. They must not have researched the area. If they did any research, I’m sure their understanding would grow.’
