The Gardens Casino is hosting the inaugural All in for Autism Speaks Poker Tournament on Saturday, April 7th. The newly remodeled casino in Hawaiian Gardens, California will host the charity event to support the mission of Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Austism Speaks’ Southern California Chapter and their mission of promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families; they will also benefit local families by providing Gemiini Educational Systems video therapy services to those in need.
The evening begins at 5:00 p.m. with red carpet arrivals and a reception filled with live music, hors-d’oeuvres, drinks and silent auction. The auction will include many one-of-a-kind items and VIP experiences, including items donated by the World Boxing Council.
The poker tournament begins at 6:00 p.m. and features a $250 buy-in, with both cash and prizes up for grabs. The tournament features pro players including Lee Watkinson, celebrities, and athletes including WBC World Champions and Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. We now know that there is not one autism but many subtypes, and each person with autism can have unique strengths and challenges. Most are caused by a combination of genetic and environmental influences, and many are accompanied by medical issues such as GI disorders, seizures and sleep disturbances. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 68 children is on the autism spectrum.
About Autism Speaks:
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. We do this through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. We empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span. Go to AutismSpeaks.org to learn more, donate or join a fundraising walk.
