BEAVER, WV (WVNS) – New River Community and Technical College has announced that they are participating in a special fundraiser for autism.  It is hosted by students in the Browning Social Services Club and benefits the Un-Prescription, which provides natural approaches to treat underlying medical problems associated with Autism.

The tournament takes place on Saturday, April 14, 2018, but the call for teams and sponsors is going out now.  The cost for a team of eight is $100 in advance or $150 at the door.  There will be two divisions.  The first is for those who play regularly and the second is for less experienced players.  T-Shirt sponsorships are available for $100 until April 2.

“Volleyball 4 Autism is the culmination of what our social services students have learned.  They’re able to plan and organize, to write grants and to follow up with donors,” said New River CTC Instructor of Social Services, Dr. Kelli White.  “With this event, we’re taking the things that they’ve learned and putting them into practice to go beyond what they’ve read in books.”

Registration on April 14 begins at 8 a.m.   The event is taking place at Memorial Baptist Church on South Kanawha Street in Beckley.  The opening serve in the 2018 tournament is at 9 a.m.  It begins with the battle for the net challenge between the West Virginia State Police and the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.
